How much eSIM data do you need? Use your real usage

Do not choose an allowance from a generic activity chart. Measure a recent period on your phone, calculate your average per day, multiply it by the trip length, then add a buffer that reflects how certain you are. The calculator below uses only the numbers you enter.

Measure a period that looks like your trip

A work week with video calls is a better sample for a work trip than a quiet weekend at home.

How can I estimate travel data without guessing?
Measure a recent period that resembles your trip, divide the total mobile data by the number of measured days, multiply by the trip length, then add the buffer you want. The calculator on this page shows every part of that arithmetic.
Where can I see mobile data use on iPhone?
Open Settings, then Cellular. Apple shows usage by app for the current period. Scroll to the bottom to see when the statistics were last reset or to reset them before measuring a new sample.
Where can I see mobile data use on Pixel?
Open Settings, Network and internet, then SIMs. Google shows the total at the top and app details under App data usage. Menu names can differ on other Android brands.
Does hotspot use count against an eSIM allowance?
Usually, data sent through a phone hotspot is mobile data. The provider can restrict tethering or count it under separate terms, so confirm hotspot support before buying.
Should I buy unlimited data instead of calculating?
Check the provider definition first. An unlimited label can include speed reductions, daily high-speed limits, hotspot restrictions, or fair-use terms. Compare those conditions with your measured requirement.
