About 5 min Updated August 25, 2026Checked against current Apple, Google and Samsung supportScope: installed travel eSIM with no data
The short version
Turn on the travel line, select it for mobile data, follow the provider's roaming instruction, and confirm the plan is active for your location. Toggle airplane mode, then restart the phone. Do not delete the eSIM or change the APN until the provider tells you to.
Start with the settings that block data most often
Test a webpage after each step with Wi-Fi off. This confirms whether mobile data, rather than Wi-Fi, is working.
1. The travel eSIM line is off
Open the phone's SIM or Cellular settings and enable the installed travel line. Confirm the provider name or label matches the plan you bought.
2. Another SIM is selected for mobile data
Select the travel eSIM as the mobile-data line. Only one line normally handles mobile data at a time.
3. The provider requires data roaming
Open the travel line and follow its provider instructions for Data Roaming. Do not copy the setting to the home line unless your home carrier tells you to.
4. The plan is not active for this place or time
Check the provider account for activation status, supported countries, remaining data and validity. A destination plan may show no service before arrival.
5. The phone needs to register again
Turn airplane mode on, wait briefly, then turn it off. If data still fails, restart the phone and test again with Wi-Fi off.
6. The automatic network is not accepted
Keep automatic network selection unless the provider names a specific supported network. Manual selection without provider guidance can leave the line on the wrong partner.
Do not delete the profile as a test. The QR code or activation details may not be reusable. Ask the provider before removal.
Find the correct line and data controls
These paths match current manufacturer support. Software and carrier editions can add or rename an item.

APN and network settings are provider-specific
Move to these checks only after the correct line, data selection, roaming rule, plan status and restart have been confirmed.
01
Compare the APN with the provider instructions
Use the exact spelling and fields supplied for your plan. Leave unsupported fields unchanged.
02
Check the named partner network
If the provider lists supported networks, confirm the phone can see one at the current destination.
03
Record before resetting
A network reset can remove saved Wi-Fi and other network settings. Use it only after reading the manufacturer's warning and provider advice.
APN values are not interchangeable. An APN copied from a forum or another eSIM company can prevent the profile from connecting.
Contact the provider with evidence
Support can act faster when it can identify the order, profile, location, device and exact failure without asking you to repeat basic checks.

Keep activation credentials private. Do not post the QR code, SM-DP+ activation code, account password or payment details in a public ticket or forum.
eSIM troubleshooting questions
Why is my eSIM installed but mobile data does not work?
The most common checks are whether the travel line is enabled, selected for mobile data, allowed to roam when the provider requires it, active for the current destination, and still within its data and validity limits.
Should I delete and reinstall an eSIM that is not working?
Not as a first step. A provider can limit downloads or issue a one-use activation code. Contact the provider before deleting the profile.
Should I change the APN?
Only when the provider gives you the exact APN and instructs you to use it. Save or record the existing value first and do not copy an APN from an unrelated provider.
Why does the eSIM show no service before I arrive?
A destination plan may not register outside its supported countries. Check the provider account for installation status, activation timing, coverage, and the network expected at your destination.
What information should I send to eSIM support?
Send the order reference, provider name, plan name, destination, phone model, operating-system version, exact error text, and the troubleshooting steps completed. Do not post the QR code or activation credentials publicly.
