Reading them in the wrong order wastes your time. Pick the sentence that matches you.

Situation one

I have not bought anything yet

Work out the size of plan you need, then check whether an eSIM beats your carrier’s travel pass at all.

Situation two

I have the QR code, now what

Install over Wi-Fi at home before you fly. The plan does not start counting down until it connects abroad.

Situation three

I have landed and there is no internet

Almost always data roaming or the wrong line selected. Both take under a minute to fix.

One line answers

Things that do not need a whole guide

Does installing an eSIM start the plan?
No. The validity clock starts when the eSIM first connects to a network at your destination, which is why installing at home over Wi-Fi costs you nothing.
Will I keep my normal phone number?
Yes. The eSIM is a second line. Your physical SIM keeps handling calls and texts unless you change the default voice line yourself.
Can I move an eSIM to another phone?
Usually not. A profile is tied to the device it activated on. Some providers reissue, many do not, so check before you delete anything.
Why does my eSIM say No Service before the trip?
There is nothing for it to attach to yet. Travel eSIMs connect to a partner network in the destination country, so no service before departure is the expected state.
Do coupon codes work on eSIM top-ups?
Rarely. Most providers treat a top-up differently from a new plan purchase and reject the code. Buy a fresh plan if you want the discount. See the live codes.
Which provider is cheapest?
It depends on destination and plan size more than on the discount. The comparison page ranks providers by what you pay per gigabyte after the code lands.
